In August 2023, the new $10 million Industry Research Projects program was opened to encourage research and business collaboration – translating research outcomes into commercialisation opportunities.

Research collaboration and commercialisation Deliver the Transforming Corrections to Transform Lives, a unique and innovative project that sees QCS working in partnership with Griffith University and the Paul Ramsay Foundation to improve the lives of women and their families in contact with the criminal justice system and stop the cycle of reoffending.* QCS QCS supported the implementation of the Transforming Lives Program at Southern Queensland Correctional Centre with a scheduled go-live date of January 2024. Additionally, QCS is an active participant in, and champion for, the government-wide Systems Change Board as part of the Transforming Corrections to Transform Lives initiative to support the identification and reduction of systemic barriers within the criminal justice system.

CEWR builds upon the Good people. Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022 – 2032 and supports the implementation of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.

In August 2023, the establishment of a new state-of-the-art Cyber Security Training Operation Centre (CSTOC) at TAFE Queensland's Coomera campus was the fourth facility opened to provide world-class training in monitoring, detecting, and containing IT threats across critical applications, devices, and systems. This initiative follows the three CSTOC’s delivered at Mooloolaba, Southbank and Cairns TAFE.

In October 2023, work commenced on the Big Build $40 million Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing Centre at Eagle Farm TAFE which will provide improved specialised training in robotics, advanced manufacturing, process instrumentation, renewable technologies (hydrogen and solar) and telecommunications.

DoR Launched the Queensland Resources Common User Facility (QRCUF) - a state-owned facility aimed at fast-tracking commercial mining projects, fostering investment in advanced mineral manufacturing, and bolstering supply chain and industry growth in Queensland. Located at the Cleveland Bay Industrial Park in Townsville, the facility is intended to be operational by 2025.

DSDI A new defence and hydrogen maintenance hub in the Cleveland Bay Industrial Park was announced in Townsville in November 2023 funded under the Queensland Government’s Industry Partnership Program. The hub will sell, repair, and maintain new-generation EV and hydrogen heavy vehicles and be a major link in North Queensland’s growing renewable energy supply chain.

DSDI A facility to enable a critical minerals processor to move to full-scale production of high purity alumina was announced in Gladstone in July 2023 funded under the Queensland Government’s Industry Partnership Program. The plant will create stronger supply chain links between critical mineral production and manufacturing.

DESI/DTS Announced in August 2023, Work Window as the winner of Advance Queensland’s Private Sector Partnership challenge to develop new technology to attract people to a career in tourism.

Under the Advance Queensland Private Sector Pathways program, Work Window was engaged to develop five new Virtual Reality experiences to assist Young Tourism Leaders in showcasing the diverse career opportunities to students. These virtual reality experiences are used by Young Tourism Leaders to engage with students at career expos and in school presentations to assist in attracting the tourism workforce of the future.

DESI In August 2023, the winner of the Advance Queensland and Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Private Sector Pathways Program challenge was announced – Imagine Realities.

The Queensland Chief Entrepreneur, Advance Queensland and Trade and Investment Queensland partnered with Climate Salad to deliver the inaugural Queensland Climate Tech Industry Report.

Health In July 2023, a new "digital passports" system was introduced to enhance the mobility and accessibility of clinicians between hospitals in regional, rural, and remote areas of Queensland and to assist with filling workforce gaps.

Health In September 2023, it was announced that the Australian-first pharmacy pilot to improve consumer access to medications was expanded to include all of Queensland.

Health In November 2023, Queensland Government announced a partnership with Queensland Ballet to provide clinically designed dance programs for vulnerable Queenslanders through the Van Norton Li Community Health Institute.

Health A new $1.125 billion Queensland Cancer Centre will be constructed in Brisbane at the Herston Health Precinct, incorporating cutting-edge technology and cancer treatment methods.

DTS A Sportstech Trade and Investment Roundtable in Brisbane was held in July 2023 to promote trade opportunities and investment interest in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

77 organisations funded a total of $7.5 million under Rounds 1 and 2 of ActiveKIT (Knowledge | Information | Technology) to support innovative solutions within the active industry to increase physical activity opportunities for Queenslanders and contribute to system-wide capability improvements.

A Super Round opened for Expressions of Interest with a program budget of $3.3 million over 2023/24 and 2024/25.

DTS The SportXccelerating Growth Pilot Program was built in response to the need for Queensland-based SportsTech company growth pathways. This program offered a comprehensive approach to fast-tracking the growth and export readiness of SportsTech companies in Queensland. Conducted from May to August 2023, the Program included a bootcamp, advisory support, and a showcase event, resulting in increased revenue and partnerships for participants.

Innovative and sustainable solutions Empower and support innovative community-led responses to local issues through an Innovation Fund, which will support community organisations to act on the matters that affect their local communities. DTATSIPCA In August 2023, 10 organisations were announced as the successful recipients of $3.4 million in Communities Innovation Fund grants. This funding is supporting innovative and community-led responses to social isolation and loneliness across Queensland.
5. Innovation precincts and places Deliver the Queensland Innovation Precincts and Places Strategy. DESI The first stream of the Queensland Innovation Precincts and Places Fund opened in July 2023. The $4 million Strategic Initiatives Program provided grants of up to $300,000 to existing Queensland innovation precincts and places and applications closed September 2023.

The $10 million Regional Precincts and Places Infrastructure and Technology Program provided grants of up to $1 million to existing Queensland Regional Precincts and Places and applications closed December 2023.

DESI In November 2023, Queensland Government announced its partnership with Smart Precinct NQ in Townsville to become a hub for information and support for local businesses looking to embed circular economy principles into their operations.

DAF/DESI Three First Nations native food businesses received funding from the Queensland Government's Indigenous Native Food Program in July 2023 to commercialise their food products and globally expand their businesses.

Announced 11 successful recipients of round 1 of the Accelerating Female Founders Program in August 2023 to share in almost $1 million in Advance Queensland funding.

Completed the Partner Up Queensland Regional Science and Innovation Network pilot project (a partnership between Advance Queensland and the Queensland Chief Scientist) and considered learnings, which informed a further four year agreement to 2026-2027 to continue operating through nodes in Darling Downs and South West Queensland (Toowoomba), Central Queensland (Gladstone and Rockhampton) and Far North Queensland (Cairns).

Advance Queensland delivered 11 media training workshops and 3 storytelling workshops across the State involving more than 170 start-up participants. Following the workshops, Advance Queensland published two resources kits on the Advance Queensland website for Queensland startups – a Storytelling Resource Kit and a Media Release Resource Kit.
