Discover the third priority of our Innovation Roadmap. For an innovation economy we need ideas, talented people and a skilled, digitally-focused workforce that has an entrepreneurial mindset. It’s about creating a knowledge economy workforce keen to innovate. Explore the key initiatives across government for opportunities to participate and prosper.

Outcome

Queensland’s existing and emerging priority industries and talent are globally competitive

Our third priority is developing talent, skills and new technologies. Innovation is essential to growing Queensland’s key priority industries and a high-growth economy.

We will continue to build our knowledge economy workforce, encourage more opportunities in STEM and encourage an entrepreneurial and innovation mindset in schools and students. Having the right skills and talent will ensure Queensland is globally competitive.

Objectives

These objectives clarify the actions we need to take to achieve this priority:

  • Increase the proportion of knowledge economy workers in the Queensland workforce.
  • Enhance the contribution of priority industries to the Queensland economy.
  • Increase knowledge-intensive productivity growth.
  • Improve STEM uptake, innovation and entrepreneurial skills in education and the workforce.

These initiatives spread across various agencies are just the start — more will be added as the Roadmap continues to get delivered and reviewed. All of the initiatives contribute to achieving the ultimate goals of the Roadmap across different sectors of the economy.
