Discover more about four Sunshine Coast-based projects innovating across advanced manufacturing, healthcare, bushfire response and geospatial data.

The Sunshine Coast is emerging as a powerhouse of innovation, with four locally led collaborations sharing $790,000 in funding from the Queensland Government’s Advance Queensland initiative.

This significant investment highlights the capability of the Sunshine Coast’s innovation leaders to collaborate with public and private sector partners in Queensland’s future focused economy that embraces innovation and technology.

These projects leverage local entrepreneurship and use innovation to solve regional and industry challenges in a range of critical areas, including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, bushfire response, and geospatial capability.

Their ground breaking collaborations are co-funded through Regional Futures - Collaborative Projects that aims to unlock economic potential by supporting projects that pioneer new industry and bring together partners to solve challenges.

Boosting Advanced Manufacturing

Sunshine Coast Maker Space is establishing an academy specialising in advanced manufacturing techniques including computerised numerical control machining to equip businesses with the skills and knowledge to expand and invest in workforce development, propelling the Sunshine Coast's manufacturing sector forward.

Revolutionising Healthcare Delivery

Bundle of Ray’s Academy is tackling the challenge of healthcare professional shortages in rural and remote areas. This program offers specialised, simulation-based training leveraging Extended Reality technologies to improve skillsets, reduce staff turnover, and create new jobs, ultimately improving access to quality care for regional communities.

Enhancing Bushfire Response

Noosa Shire Council is delivering a Fire Air Traffic Management trial aiming to transform bushfire response. This project explores the safe integration of crewed aircraft and drones, allowing for enhanced aerial intelligence and more effective firefighting strategies all aimed at saving lives, property and natural environments in future disaster events.

Partners: with AAI Limited (Suncorp) and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service.

Unlocking the Power of Geospatial Data

The University of the Sunshine Coast‘s Space to Sea Accelerator program focuses on unlocking the commercial potential of the emerging geospatial industry. By exploring innovative uses of geospatial data, the program seeks to develop sustainable solutions for complex environmental challenges and disaster management by bringing together leading researchers including from the Smart Sat CRC, businesses and key industry partner Geospatial Intelligence for enduring sector growth.
