Red Ridge’s successful strategy

It’s a long way from the sandhills of Central West Queensland to the runways of Queen Street Mall. But Indigenous not-for-profit Red Ridge has made the journey, showcasing their unique designs during 2023 Brisbane Fashion Month.

Red Ridge was born from a desire to bring arts to the outback. They wanted to directly impact and support the community and tell their stories to a broader audience.

Red Ridge the Label celebrates central western Queensland Aboriginal artists by applying their work to fashion garments ready for commercial sale.

Their strategy has paid off.

They have been popular designers on catwalks around the country. Most recently, they presented their clothing line as part of the Brisbane Designer Showcase that was open to the public during Fashion Month in October 2023.

Canvas to Catwalk

In 2022, Red Ridge the Label received $60,000 in funding for their Canvas to Catwalk project as part of the Advance Queensland Regional Futures Collaborative Projects initiative.

Advance Queensland Regional Lead Helen Burrell said the event during Brisbane Fashion Month was a huge success and a culmination of the Canvas to Catwalk project.

‘There wasn’t a spare seat in the crowd, with everyone appreciating the talent and stunning fashions on display, and a lot of applause and great engagement before and after the show.’
