Advance Queensland is committed to helping our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business leaders and innovators access to experts and opportunities to generate new ideas and grow their sector.
COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our global communities and economies, especially our Indigenous community and its business and innovation sector.
In response to these challenges, Indigenous leaders called for an innovative and immediate approach to continue to support the Indigenous community and businesses during this time.
In consultation with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Business and Innovation Reference Group (BIRG), Advance Queensland introduced the Indigenous Business to Business Support Service partnering with Brisbane-based Indigenous business Iscariot Media to the develop and manage the new service.
Iscariot Media launched the service which includes a free telephone help line and digital platform designed to support Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander businesses through the COVID-19 recovery.
This service is providing Queensland’s Indigenous business sector with an exclusive space to discuss their needs, access information about programs available for small businesses and share their success stories with the broader community.
“Open for Business has been wonderful. We've connected over 200 Indigenous businesses so far, and we're sharing the stories of Indigenous Business from across Queensland,” Leesa Watego said.
“Thank you Advance Queensland for helping to bring Open for Business to life!”
Since launching on 01 June 2020, the new service has already participated in 300 calls with businesses, engaged 14 Indigenous suppliers and featured 15 Indigenous Business stories.
The Open for Business service is an example of how government can work with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business sector to harness relationships, strengthen respect and create opportunity.
