Gaps in remote aircraft tracking
Current satellite tracking systems typically provide location updates in remote or Oceanic flying at between two- and fifteen-minute intervals, leaving significant distances untracked. This limitation poses a serious risk to aircraft operating in remote areas, where timely responses to emergencies are crucial. Operators also face challenges with the expense of increasing satellite reporting frequency, and the unreliability of free public ADS-B data in remote locations.
SkyNet Commercial ADS-B
Queensland based company, SkyNet Aviation has developed SkyNet Commercial ADS-B, a system that integrates remote terrestrial ground receivers with their SkyNet REACH software platform. This technology combines Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) and fusion satellite data, enabling aircraft tracking at up to one-second intervals. This vastly exceeds the capabilities of existing systems, providing a low-cost, high-accuracy alternative to satellite-only derived data.

Expanding network and market reach
The Advance Queensland Ignite Ideas Fund has been instrumental in enabling SkyNet Aviation to expand its Commercial ADS-B network and reach new markets. The funding supported the engagement of industry participants, the expansion of the ground receiver network, and the promotion of the solution both in Australia and overseas. This support has allowed SkyNet to reach a wider audience, including our Pacific neighbours such as Papua New Guinea, where they provide over 30 ADS-B sites for the entire country and enhance aviation safety across vast regions.
Enhanced safety and operational efficiency
SkyNet Commercial ADS-B delivers numerous benefits. The system provides high-frequency, accurate tracking data, and quality of service monitoring for all sites, significantly reducing search and rescue times and enhancing overall flight safety. By leveraging existing aircraft equipment and a terrestrial network, SkyNet offers a cost-effective alternative to expensive satellite tracking. The integrated platform provides real-time data and advanced analytics, enabling fleet operators to optimise their operations and ensure compliance with safety regulations. SkyNet's network fills gaps in existing coverage, particularly in remote and offshore areas, ensuring continuous tracking. The technology has led to the development of new solutions, such as SkyNet REACH LASAW, opening up new markets for remote airstrip and helipad operators.

The future: global leadership in aviation analytics
SkyNet Aviation is poised to become a global leader in aviation flight operations and analytical services. With a growing customer base and ongoing development of innovative solutions, the company is expanding its reach and impact. The Ignite Ideas Fund has provided a crucial boost to SkyNet's growth, enabling them to enhance aviation safety and operational efficiency for operators worldwide. The company is now focused on expanding its sales efforts and securing new customers both in Australia and overseas, building upon the marketing and development work completed during the project.
