Taking great ideas to pitch-perfect prototypes: empowering practitioners to innovate the future of healthcare

The Clinician Entrepreneurship Change Agents Program (CECAP) run by Griffith University Business School is equipping doctors and practitioners with the know-how to develop and commercialise ideas for new and improved healthcare products and services.

Supported by Gold Coast Health and the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, and with $200,000 funding from Advance Queensland’s Regional Futures - Collaborative Projects, CECAP is among the impressive initiatives helping to revolutionise healthcare and create commercial opportunities for the Gold Coast region.

The innovative program is open exclusively to qualified clinicians who are guided on a journey from idea to commercialisation through a free training and support program.

Participants receive coaching on everything from foundational business literacy to the steps to take a product, device, digital or AI application or innovation all the way to market, or into organisational clinical practice.

Delivery consists of self-paced online business literacy training, in-person workshops, and mentoring and advice from an expert ‘entrepreneur-in-residence.’

The first program launched in May 2023 and delivered seven workshops, hosted six guest speakers and provided a combined 60 hours of individual mentoring to 12 practitioners.

Successful outcomes included the design and 3D printing of two prototype products at Griffith University’s Advanced Design and Prototyping Technologies Institute, and an event for participants to practice their new skills to a ‘Pitch Perfect’ panel.

Over 200 people have registered their interest in the next round of workshops for Cohort 2 due to begin in October.
