New sustainable product revolutionising the construction industry

Advance Queensland supported E-Abode to attend LeadIN – Transformation is Now event series held across the Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday region in March and August 2022, to showcase innovative solutions to buyers and demonstrate regional transformation in all sectors of the economy.

E-Abode were one of seven exhibitors of innovative solutions that also included CalAlSil, GreaseBoss, InFarm, STEM Punks, Wom-Batt and Solar Relief

E-Abode are the developers of MOROBLOCK, a sustainable, pre-fabricated laminated and strong bamboo hollow block that is considered a viable and affordable option in everyday modern building activities.

The business aims to revolutionise the construction industry by offering an ecological, economic, energy efficient and safe alternative to concrete, plasterboard, and timber by using locally harvested bamboo, a completely self-supporting building system that helps makes the building process faster.

Founder of MOROBLOCK, Marcel Morokutti said, "I designed MOROBLOCK using engineered, interlocking bamboo blocks to create a self-supporting structure, which dispels the myth that there is nothing stronger than concrete. Its construction is simpler, more efficient and requires no core filling or studs and noggins, resulting in extremely effective insulative properties.”

This was evidenced by stress tests conducted at the Cyclone Testing Station at James Cook University, Townsville, which highlighted MOROBLOCK’s strength and durability as it well surpassed category 5 cyclone rating requirements.

MOROBLOCK’s efficiency continues into its transportation and renovation. The material required to build a 3-bedroom house can fit onto 4 standard pallets, which reduces transportation costs as well as its carbon footprint.

Marcel’s vision is to manufacture at scale in Mackay to a global marketplace,

“The global bamboo industry is worth US$53Billion annually. North Queensland is perfectly situated to produce this product and in future, become a supplier to this market instead of just a customer to it. MOROBLOCK is versatile, sustainable and cost effective with incredible potential. " Marcell said.

The LeadIN 2022 event series provided E-Abode with an opportunity to introduce MOREBLOCK to a wider audience, including potential customers and industry stakeholders within the region, and other entrepreneurs and innovators showcasing at the event who shared invaluable information and innovative ideas that have helped E-Abode on their innovation journey.

This included the opportunity offered by the Queensland Chief Entrepreneur to exhibit to potential government buyers at the BiiG Conference in April 2022 in Brisbane and also pitching at the Mackay round of the Croc Pitch competition, held in July at the Northern Australia Conference.

Donna Kellion, Co-founder at E-Abode said they were delighted to win the pitch event, “This October, Marcel and I are travelling to Darwin for the finals with a chance to win a share of $1 million in venture capital, which would provide an opportunity for the business to grow and diversify our product range including granny flats and mining village accommodation.”

The future looks bright for E-Abode and their sustainable building solution MOROBLOCK.
