Culture and cuisine: First Nations husband-wife team to launch pathways program for Indigenous youth

To celebrate Indigenous Business Month, we’re highlighting some of Queensland’s amazing Indigenous businesses, starting with Sobah Beverages.

Indigenous owned and led, Sobah Beverages is Australia's first non-alcoholic craft beer company run by husband-wife team Clinton and Lozen Schult, who are passionate about breaking down the stigma of socialising sober.

Starting from a native cuisine food truck and catering business nearly a decade ago, you can now check out their new Brewery and Cafe Precinct at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.

Lozen Schult said, “We’re so excited for this next step in our journey, but we measure our worth by the impact we have already made and will continue to make in our community and our country.”

Sobah received a $500,000 Deadly Partnership grant jointly funded by Advance Queensland and the Department of Environment and Science. The funding supports the purchase of specified plant and equipment to allow technologies to be installed and operated at the Sobah Brewery Precinct that support circular economy outcomes and commercialisation, in particular water recycling, solar and battery utilisation, and waste reduction.

As part of the grant agreement, Sobah will establish programs to support First Nations people through employment and training opportunities, including:

Partnership with Preston Campbell Foundation to deliver pathway programs for youth, and

Development and implementation of a school-based traineeship pilot for local Indigenous students.

Sobah Brewery and Cafe takes diners on a journey of flavours, shining a spotlight on native ingredients. Fusing culture and cuisine to create a truly unique dining experience. There’s also a multi-purpose space suitable for events such as yoga, workshops, meetings and celebrations.
