Cracking the market with concrete safety tech

Concrete Data Sensors have developed a smart sensor device with monitoring technology with the unique ability to be embedded into concrete, soils, walls, mines, bridges, tunnel and buildings. The sensors can detect movement immediately and eliminate catastrophic collapse like those witnessed at the Opal Towers in Sydney or Miami Tower in the United States.

Concrete Data Sensors received $100,000 in Advance Queensland Ignite Ideas funding to launch into the construction and mining markets, putting on an additional four staff and with the aim of generating over $2 million in revenue within the next two years.

We spoke with Concrete Data Sensors about this cutting-edge technology and what’s on the horizon for this ambitious company.

What inspired you to start your business?

After watching structural failures like Opal Tower in Sydney and Miami Tower in the US, we saw a desperate need in the market. We developed a patent protected sensor that can be embedded in concrete structures for decades to provide structural integrity monitoring and alerts if any irregular behaviour is detected.

What milestones have been reached?

We have gone from working out of our garage to installing our sensors on the largest lithium mine in the world! We have also gained worldwide patent protection for our product.

What achievements are you most proud of to date?

We are proud that our product is world leading and uses state of the art technology.

It has been wonderful to watch our dream and ideas go from testing, prototypes and trials to now fulfilling commercial orders.

What are your business goals over the next 12-24 months?

We hope to gain extensive market share in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia in providing long term structural integrity monitoring to residential towers, infrastructure assets and mining applications.

How will use your Ignite Ideas funding?

Will we employ more local Queenslanders into our business and undertake a large scale educational marketing campaign targeting the professional industries we work with. We believe this will allow us to speed up our commercialisation.

How will this funding assist your business to grow and/or create jobs?

It will allow us to saturate the market with our brand and suite of products so we can start assisting and providing state of the art technology to the construction, civil and mining industries.

Why would you recommend applying for Advance Queensland programs, such as the Ignite Ideas Fund?

I would encourage you to have a go and apply for Advance Queensland funding as it could very well change your future!

Why is it important to support Queensland businesses, innovators and entrepreneurs?
