Karen led a world first regulator capability review of ASIC in 2015. It identified many of the same concerns of regulators raised by the royal commission three years later.
ASIC’s current priorities are to address consumer harm, punish wrongdoing and encourage better conduct and behaviour, including a greater emphasis on fairness and professionalism throughout the industry. Karen will underscore the importance of financial services actually serving the consumer, and how, in the wake of the royal commission, ASIC is focused on stopping and preventing consumer harm. And be warned: disclosure is no longer the ‘silver bullet’ that it was once thought to be.
