Mental ill-health conservatively costs the Australian economy over $50B per year. Through direct and indirect costs, Australian businesses absorb $10.8B of this cost each year. Few businesses have evidence-based strategies to manage mental health in the workplace and are failing to reap the significant competitive advantages of improved wellbeing of their people.
In 2019, the Productivity Commission undertook a landmark inquiry into mental health, with the final report scheduled for February 2020. The draft report contained several recommendations that could change the landscape for businesses both small and large.
