Gold Coast company Kynd believe the right support has the power to change everything.
This social impact startup has made it their mission to improve the lives of people living with a disability, providing them with more flexibility, choice and personalised NDIS support services.
After his mother experienced a fall post-surgery that required short-term support, Kynd Founder Michael Metcalfe discovered first-hand just how difficult it was to navigate the disability and care space.
“The available options were confusing, costly, impersonal and offered little flexibility and choice. I remember thinking, there had to be a better way to solve these challenges and to help people and families,” Michael said.
“That’s when I set out to find a solution and created a simple and smart platform to help bring Queenslanders together, provide value for money and offer personalised NDIS support.”
Co-designed with input for NDIS participants, the Kynd website and mobile app helps find and book suitable Disability Support Workers with ease.
Built solely for the NDIS, the technology and mobile app makes the process of connecting with fully verified disability support workers right across the state, simple and seamless
NDIS participants and their families can browse profiles, compare and request services and use direct messaging to connect with support workers that best meet their needs and preferences.
Support workers can us the platform to choose their services, set their rates, manage their bookings and search and apply to listed jobs.
Since launching in 2018, Kynd have continued to grow their NDIS community, expand their technology platform and service area right across Queensland, and build a comprehensive Queensland team.
They’ve also raised a private capital round, been awarded multiple innovation grants including a Round 3 and Round 5 Ignite Ideas Fund grant and been recognised as a ‘Future Maker Social Impact’ business by telecommunications giant, Optus and Singtel.
Michael said the support from the Advance Queensland Ignite Ideas Fund has been instrumental in helping Kynd grow.
“The Ignite Ideas Fund has helped us move even quicker to onboard the right people, validate ideas, and grow our NDIS user base as well as reach a broader market,” Michael said.
“It has opened doors for us with introductions to other government departments and Queensland companies that have offered invaluable advice on how to expand Kynd’s impact further.
“It really is a landmark program that makes you deeply evaluate your venture and proposed business project and backs your scalable ideas to grow.
“You not only learn a lot from the process, but are provided funding that helps in hiring more people sooner, improving your venture, accelerating your growth and promoting yourself more widely.”
