  • Who can apply?

    Funding is open to profit and not-for-profit organisations with an ABN and are registered for GST.

  • What does it mean to be Queensland based?

    For an applicant, Queensland based means the Australian Business Register must designate your organisation as having a Queensland address.

  • What if I am not based in Queensland?

    If your organisation is not based in Queensland, you must partner with a Queensland based organisation to deliver the activity.

  • Does the activity have to take place in Queensland?

    Yes, as the program aims to build, attract and retain young entrepreneurial talent in Queensland, the activity must take place in Queensland, or be of benefit to young Queensland entrepreneurs.

  • What if some of the participants in my activity are under 15 or over 24 years of age?

    While the target age range for Young Starters' activities is 15–24 years, participants outside this age range could be involved by exception. This would be considered on a case by case basis.

  • If I am an existing Queensland Government grant recipient, am I still eligible to apply?

    Yes, however, you must demonstrate the matched funding requirement is not sourced from any existing Queensland Government funding.

The application

  • What is the closing date for applications?

    Applications have closed.

  • What accompanying documents are required?

    Applications should include a project budget spreadsheet (xlsx, 14KB).

  • Can I apply for funding support for an activity that commenced prior to this application?

    No. Funding is not retrospective. Only activities that commence after the agreed start date of the project will be funded.

  • How can I check the status of my application?

    There is no facility to check your application online. You will be notified of your application outcome via email.

  • When will I be notified of my application outcome?

    You will be notified approximately 6–8 weeks after lodging your application.

  • Can I revise my application after lodgement?

    No, however you must advise the department of changes which are likely to impact on your eligibility.

  • Can I submit more than one application?

    Yes, but only one application per activity (project) will receive funding. An applicant may apply for multiple separate activities, but funding will only be provided once previous activities are complete.

Payments and funding

  • What is the program payment structure?

    A 80 per cent initial upfront payment will be made upon signing of the Letter of Offer. The final 20 per cent will be paid upon completion of the project. In order to receive the final payment, applicants must provide a final report final report (PDF, 1MB) and a financial acquittal report, to the satisfaction of the department.

  • Are grant payments subject to GST?

    Yes, all applicants must be registered for GST and grant payments will be GST inclusive.

  • Are in-kind costs eligible for matched funding?

    Yes, however, please note that existing staff costs are not considered eligible in-kind contributions.

  • Who can I partner with or from whom can I source other in-kind contributions?

    Applicants can source funding from third parties including sponsors, community organisations, schools, universities, local governments and industry and professional bodies. Evidence of the funding contributions will be required upon notification of success, and prior to funds being released.

  • What is a Letter of Offer?

    Successful applicants will receive an offer of financial assistance, in the form of a legally binding Letter of Offer with the Queensland Government. If you accept this offer, you will be required to sign a formal Letter of Offer within 15 days of receipt of the offer.

    The Letter of Offer is the legally binding document that accompanies the terms and conditions of the Young Starters' Fund.

    The Terms and Conditions outlines the milestone schedule linked to grant payment instalments. This includes a requirement for recipients to report on performance indicators, which illustrate how the project has met the aims and objectives of the fund.

    Please ensure that you have read and accepted the Terms and Conditions prior to submitting an application for funding. They will not be negotiable after a funding offer is made.

  • If I am successful, do I need to acknowledge the Queensland Government support?

    Yes you are required to acknowledge Queensland Government support. More details about this requirement are outlined in the Terms and Conditions.

  • Can I commence the project at any time?

    No, your project must commence within 90 days of signing the Letter of Offer, and be completed within the agreed project timeframe.
